January 2020: A 101 in 1001 non-update

Hello reader!

During January 2020, 101 in 1001 goals have pretty much fallen by the wayside.
On the 31st I visited an occupational therapist (OT) and found out that the ongoing pain I'd had in my wrist for six months was likely a sprain/torn ligament in my wrist and that the best way to heal it was to immobilise it for a few weeks which is what I ended up doing.

My original oh so pretty splint was purple and covered from my palm and then halfway down my forearm. It made using the hand for anything pretty difficult so most of the time I've been adapting to not using that hand. It's meant that I've not really focused on doing anything on my list and I'll admit to being a little bit frustrated by the whole situation.

I'm now in what's apparently called a warrior splint which looks more like a beige wrist sweatband to me. My emo heart loves it.

On top of that I've been dealing with the general stresses of upcoming education, transitioning to my new role at work (whilst training my replacement) and the fun time that is having housemates that are also family members. It's been a great month.

I was chatting to a friend last night and talking about how I wanted to have more adventures in 2020. This led me down memory lane as I remembered reading about microadventures which is a practice I want to invest more in this year.

I'm going to cut this entry off here but I hope to have an actual update for you in Feb :)

Much love,

Lee

Year In Review & The Year Ahead - 2019-2020

Here is my 2020 vision! (Muahahahaha everyone is so sick of that joke). Forgive the brevity, I'm writing with a splint. Well. Typing.

SCA

What have you done that is new?
I made an attempt at Viking garb. It's terrible and needs to be redone (also I shouldn't be calling it Viking garb) but I did it.

What was the best moment?
The atmosphere at the final Pencampwr was enjoyable.

What was the worst moment?
The ongoing argument over the ending of Pencampwr and the sorting out of how to proceed with holding an event during that space by the group.

Have you held an office this year?
Nope

Have you run anything this year?

Nope

Have you entered anything this year?
Nope

What have you made this year?
The apron dress and two under dresses. To be remade.

Who inspired me?
Ilaria and Konrad, for putting up with me (and their kids). If I wasn't still friends with Ilaria I'd probably never return to the SCA.

What new things would you like to do next year?
More garb. More embroidery. More A&S entries. More events. Give me more!

Everyday

What single achievement are you most proud of?
Passing UniReady and getting accepted into university!

What did you set out to accomplish this year that you didn't make happen?
I think I expected to be further into the Twitch/streaming lifestyle but it just turned out to be something that didn't speak to me. I'll still do it for fun but not looking to take it further.

What new places did you go in 2019?
No new places really - I did go to Bells Rapids Park which was new "local" place for me.

What new skills did you learn?
Academic writing, some algebra, communication skills for uni...

What was your favourite book?
I don't think I picked up any new books this year, I did reread my Tamora Pierce books again though, cementing them as my favourite books ever.

What was your favourite electronic game?
Hands down Stardew Valley. I've even got my sister playing as I gave it to her for Christmas!

What was your favourite non-electronic game?
We've just recently started playing Pandemic, a boardgame where you cooperate to cure four diseases across the world.

What was the best moment?
Getting accepted into University.

What was the worst moment?
The two weeks where I thought for sure I'd failed one of my units and was going to fail UniReady.

If you had to describe 2020 in three words, what would they be?
Educating, Thought provoking :P
